A Grady-White Boats dealership in Pompano Beach, Fla., has a goal to raise $50,000 for cancer research and care.

The issue is personal for Jon Burkert, co-owner of Pompano Beach Marine Center. His wife, Beth, recently fought and won her battle against breast cancer. Now the dealership is doing its part for Dolphins Challenge Cancer, which benefits Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the University of Miami Health System.

The dealership wrapped a Fisherman 257 in pink and the center console made its debut in the Grady-White booth at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The goal is not only to raise awareness about cancer but money to end the disease. One in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society.

The fundraiser has brought in $6,500 as of early December with pledges from 14 riders. Burkert plans to bring the Fisherman 257 to the Miami International Boat Show to keep raising money toward the $50,000 goal.

Dolphins Challenge Cancer was founded in 2010 by the Miami Dolphins and has grown into the largest fundraising event in the NFL. Working with community groups, participants have raised more than $39.2 million for Sylvester.

Pompano Beach Marine Center celebrated its 60th year in 2022 and has been a Grady-White Boats dealership since 1979.  Â
